Take the National Numeracy Challenge
To test your numeracy skills, click on this link to register and then take the National Numeracy Challenge, run by the charity: National Numeracy.
National Numeracy offer a quick online check (average time to complete it is 10 minutes) of your numeracy skills, and you may use a calculator if you wish. The check might ask numerical questions involving: time, money, area, addition, multiplication, comparing numbers, percentages, division, estimation, and ratios.
Your score gives you a rough idea of your everyday maths skills. The closer to 20 you score, the higher your skill level is. A score of 12 or more suggests you’re at least at Functional Skills Level 1, and 16 or more suggests up to Functional Skills Level 2 (equivalent to the old GCSE grade C)
Your first score isn’t as important as getting you started with learning how to do the questions you get wrong, and then taking more quick checks to practise and improve your skills.
When you're ready, you can also take National Numeracy’s longer everyday maths skills check-up to get an accurate measure of your skills and to see if you have the Essentials of Numeracy: the core mathematical skills needed to be confident and competent with numbers in daily life and the workplace. The check-up will highlight your strengths and weaknesses and will allow you to print off a certificate.
By providing your post code and telling National Numeracy what maths qualifications you have, they’ll be able to tell you whether you’re eligible for free numeracy support online or in your local area.
