Overview: This a 2000 edition of the 1962 book on shelf 15.3 and has a slightly changed title ("west" has been removed), but the contents are identical, and also has a different publisher, and now has an ISBN number.  The book is a "collection and compilation of the information about the Sikh Shrines [in west Pakistan]"  "After independence the management of Sikh shrines was disrupted and therefore, the responsibility for their maintenance and repairs fell on the Government of Pakistan.  This all the more necessitated a preliminary survey of all the Sikh Shrines in Pakistan by the Department of Archaeology."  "shrines have been arranged districtwise in alphabetical order. Brief life sketches of the gurus are given before the description of the Shrines associated with them [for some gurus, there are no shrines associated with them in Pakistan]. A consolidated list of all the Shrines has also been given at the end."  "it is therefore, in the larger interest of Pakistan's history and culture, that as a first step towards oreserving the sacred relics of the Sikhs, the present Monograph has been prepared."  Reading the author's introduction, it is clear that his story about Sikhs (e.g., the reason for the execution of guru Tegh Bahadur) differs from that in most other books on history, written by Sikhs.  This author says the reason for the execution was political and there is no mention of the reason commonly associated with Tegh Bahadur (of saving the Hindu faith). He writes "Guru's death in these circumstances was not due to any religious bias, but on account of a political issue."  The author also says the Guru offered to perform a miracle.    A bibliography is presented, plus many B&W photos.

Overview: The book contains numerous stories about the golden temple, up to the 1984 operation Bluestar and Russia's hand in it.  There is also a chapter of buildings that form the golden temple complex.  When comparing the list of contents, this edition has most of the same content as the 2001 edition on shelf 15.3, but in the 2013 edition some content is either excluded or added.  It is a pity therefore, that the later edition has not highlighted these changes to earlier editions. The latest title has dropped "The".
