Overview: The book is the third edition of the book first published in 1883. It is based mainly on the DG. The author says, in 1909,: "I have referred to the contemporary and later Moslem historians and English writers on Indian history and, where necessary, I have quoted largely from them to corroborate what I have said.  I have visited several of the gurdwaras and places of note with which the memory of the Guru is associated, and have personally enquiired into the traditions that are current there."  This third edition is not an exact copy of the 1970 edition (on shelf 4.2) because: it has no contents, chapters have titles but no chapter numbers, and it has more pages so it might include more content.  It has therefore been listed separately.  The third edition says: "In this edition, we have taken careful measures in properly naming the chapters and updating some facts."  As I have stated in another summary, books that refer to accounts written by Moslems, and European writers' accounts based on those Moslem writers' books, should be critically evaluated for misinformation about Sikh history and the gurus.
